
Gauranga Das is a member of ISKCON’s Governing Body Commission (GBC), entrusted with global responsibilities for Human Resource Development and Capacity Building of ISKCON temples worldwide. He strategizes on creating systems to foster a culture of care within ISKCON communities aiming to enhance the competence of ISKCON leadership in temples across the world through comprehensive training and development programs. He also inspires collaborations both among ISKCON temples and with key societal stakeholders to achieve mutually beneficial impacts.
A B.Tech graduate from IIT Bombay, Gauranga Das has been serving in various national and global capacities within the ISKCON organization. He holds the positions of Global Duty Officer for the ISKCON Governing Body Commission (GBC), trustee of ISKCON GBC College, and is an active member of both the GBC Organizational Development Committee and the GBC Nominations Committee.
He is the Director of ISKCON’s Govardhan Ecovillage, a United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) award winning eco-village community that is accredited by multiple other UN bodies including UNEP, UNCCD, UN ECOSOC, and UN CBD. He has been nominated as UNEP’s Faith for Earth Counsellor. Gauranga Das’s contributions to the green building movement have earned him the title of IGBC Fellow from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
Gauranga Das has also made notable contributions to global food systems and sustainability efforts. He is currently the Co-facilitator for the Food Systems, Hunger, and Poverty Working Group in the C20 Brazil on behalf of India. During the C20 India 2023 events, he served as the Co-Ordinator of the Food and LiFE Sub Working Group and at the concluding summit he was appointed for leading the initiative to declare 2023-2033 as the decade of conscious food production and consumption.
In addition to these roles, Gauranga Das serves as Co-President of the ISKCON Chowpatty temple and as the Administrative Director for the Bhaktivedanta Research Centre (BRC) in Kolkata. The BRC is an ISKCON initiative which connects working professionals, housewives, and students to the academic study of philosophy, creates libraries of Vedic literatures and manuscripts, and facilitates MA and PhD programs in philosophy. The BRC houses a library that preserves 25,000 ancient Vedic books and manuscripts.
He leads multiple rural development initiatives along with his team working on the social, economic, and ecological upliftment of the community
• Free Meals Distribution Program: Over 2.2 million sanctified meals distributed among villagers in Palghar district and slums of Mumbai.
• Eco-Restoration: Restoration of seven water bodies in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh in Mathura District.
• Skill Center: Training tribal youths of Palghar district in electric vehicle skills, providing them with livelihood opportunities. Collaborated with TRTI on the mission to upskill the tribal youth by providing various vocational trainings and employment opportunities.
• Education Program: Leading the Transformational District Collaborative, empowering tribal students of Palghar District through capacity building and improving learning outcomes for over 64,000 tribal children in 102 residential schools, in collaboration with the Maharashtra Tribal Development Department.
Beyond his services at ISKCON, Gauranga Das serves as an advisor for the sustainable development of the Ekatma Dham Project by the Honorable Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. He is on the board of founders of Rishihood University, India’s first and only impact university, and is a member of the High-Profile Advisory Committee of the Central Sanskrit University, the largest multi-campus global Sanskrit university which has 12 campuses across India with 11,000 students studying Sanskrit. He is also a visiting faculty member at IIM Nagpur, where he teaches a 1.5-credit course on Life Management Skills (LMS). In recognition of his valuable contributions, he received an Honorary Doctorate from Kaziranga University in Assam.
Gauranga Das is an accomplished author, having written three books: "The Art of Resilience," "The Art of Focus," and "The Art of Habits." He is also an inspirational speaker, having presented at various conferences including TEDx and corporate events for companies such as Intel, Salesforce, and Google.
Through his multifaceted roles and initiatives, Gauranga Das continues to promote sustainable living and spiritual education, integrating traditional Vedic wisdom with modern practices and these have garnered international recognition, including various awards for the Govardhan Ecovillage.
